2019 Reed City RB Philip “PJ” Jones knows he doesn’t go to the biggest school but that won’t stop him from getting his name out to college coaches.

The 5-foot-8, 160-pound runningback is coming back to Reed City after a very successful 2017 Junior season which saw Reed City in the Division 5 State Semi-Finals. As well as leading the entire state in rushing touchdowns with 37. He also finished 2nd in rushing yards with 2,335 only trailing Grand Rapids Catholic Central runningback Nolan Fugate by 50 yards who rushed for over 300 yards in the Division 4 State Championship last fall.

Jones is excited to get back out on the field in the fall but this summer he plans on getting heavy recruiting interest.

“I expect bigger things and heavy recruitment going into my senior season. I took a visit to Northwood University back In November and Central Michigan has shown interest in me along with Hillsdale College,” says Jones.

Of course Jones plans on going to camps this summer and was recently invited to a big camp that will get him plenty of exposure.

“I was recently invited to the Nike Opening Regionals, which has a lot of exposure there and gives me the opportunity to showcase my talents and hopefully make it to the finals in the summer. I plan on attending that this upcoming May. I plan on going to other camps too this summer to get my name and talents out there.”

Reed City is a small school in Northern Michigan between Big Rapids and Cadillac and although it’s not the biggest school Jones is thankful for the program but knows he must make a name at these camps too.

“Coming from a smaller school I feel like it is harder for me to get my name out. I just have to keep grinding and let everything take care of itself and take advantage of the camps I go to and get as much exposure as I can.”

Jones is a very talented runningback who I’m expecting a big senior season from. If he adds a little bit of weight Jones could end up with a Division 1 Scholarship. I expect his recruitment to end up with a lot of offers from Division 2 GLIAC schools but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Division 1 MAC schools get involved
